It is with deep sadness and profound shock that we learned of the tragic and brutal murder of DA
Chief Whip Cllr Nhlalayenza Ndlovu in KwaZulu-Natal. On behalf of the South African Local
Government Association (SALGA ),we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends,
and colleagues of Cllr Ndlovu during this difficult time.
The loss of a dedicated public servant such as Cllr Ndlovu is not only a tragedy for the Democratic
Alliance but for the entire community. It is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by individuals
who commit themselves to the betterment of society through public service.
As SALGA in KZN We strongly condemn any act of violence, particularly those targeting elected
officials who play a crucial role in representing the interests of their constituents. The murder of
Cllr Ndlovu is a stark reminder that political differences should be resolved through peaceful
dialogue and democratic processes, not through violence.
Furthermore, it is distressing to note the increasing trend of political killings in KwaZulu-Natal. The
current statistics reveal a disturbing pattern that threatens the very essence of our democratic
principles. The rising number of incidents not only endangers the lives of public officials but also
undermines the democratic foundations of our society.
As we express our condolences, we call upon all political leaders, activists, and citizens to unite
against political violence. The right to life is a fundamental human right that must be upheld, and
any infringement upon it is an assault on the democratic values we hold dear.
In the run-up to the 2024 elections, we urge all political parties and their supporters to engage in
constructive dialogue, respect differing opinions, and promote a peaceful and inclusive
democratic process. Violence has no place in our democratic society, and we must work
collectively to ensure that the upcoming voting season is characterized by tolerance,
understanding, and the peaceful exchange of ideas.
We call upon law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the
murder of Cllr Ndlovu and to bring those responsible to justice swiftly. Justice must prevail to
serve as a deterrent against future acts of political violence.
In closing, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Cllr Ndlovu. May they
find strength and solace during this challenging time.”
